Candace Cameron-Bure (Stand for your Christian Faith)

I never really watched Full House, but I am really proud of Candace Cameron-Bure.  She stood up for her Christian faith and morals on Dancing with the Stars.  I don’t watch that show either, but I saw the clip from Youtube.

There are two quotes from her that are highlighted by the article here.

“‘I’m a Christian,’ Cameron-Bure said in the video package. ‘My life revolves around my relationship with Jesus Christ. So with the overall tone of the dance and the costumes I’m not going to take a backseat. My voice will definitely be heard.'”

“‘I feel like a sexual woman, I’ve been married for 18 years. I am a sexual woman,’ Cameron-Bure said, the crowd offering another round of cheers. ‘But I want to reserve certain things for my husband, so we did the best that we could with a rumba that I still felt comfortable doing.'”

Well done Candace.  Well done.

Sexual fulfillment for men and women can be found in the life love story of a married man and woman.  It is God’s design and intent for sexual relationships.

God’s Not Dead

Just saw the film God’s Not Dead.  It is really good.

As any good film, it focuses on character development and explores the question of God’s existence.  Does He exist or not?   Atheists claim He doesn’t, but they have no proof that He doesn’t.  All they do is say it without any evidence to support their claim.

On the other hand, the main character in the film who is a freshmen in college that takes up the challenge by his atheistic professor, lays out some reasoning behind why he believes God does exist.

My only negative toward the film is they didn’t devote enough time to tearing apart the philosophy that God does not exist.  They could have hammered the wedge much deeper between actual science (principals of testing and observing) and the bogus “scientific” philosophy/speculation of  the scientific community of macro evolution etc.  If you can’t test and observe, then it is not science.  It is speculative philosophy.

The character development is great with the character arcs, and they handled the theme about persecution against Christians in the world very well.  We may not have government persecuting us, but we get persecuted from serveral sources that the film points out.

Excellent film, and I think everyone should go see it.

“Scientists Say…” (Big Bang Cosmology Discovery)

“Scientists Say They Just Found Landmark Evidence for the Big Bang That Offers a Window ‘Back to the Beginning of Time’”

Full article here.

This made big news the last couple of days, so I thought I would make some comments and pose some questions.  A lot will be directed at the author (Billy Hallowell) of the article, but I’ll address quotes by the scientists as well.

First, I will say I’m happy and excited that they made this discovery.

Signs of Change (February 2014)

George Bryson & Calvary Chapel

Looks like there is going to be a possible split in Calvary Chapel (depending on if any Calvary Chapel senior pasters decide to break ranks), and it is being led by none other than anti-calvinist George “Read My Book” Bryson.

“On July 19, Chuck Smith sent an email blast to all Calvary Chapel senior pastors endorsing the new Calvary Chapel Association.

On July 20th, George Bryson held a conference at CC Cypress rallying senior pastors to “stay the course”… to hold to traditional Calvary distinctives that aren’t endorsed (at least in print) by the new CCA.

Chuck Smith sent them an endorsement as well.

On Sunday the 21st, everyone was confused. Again.” (Michael Newnham, July 31, 2013 article here)

The first Calvary Chapel split since the death of Chuck Smith is official.

The Calvary Chapel Association announced this afternoon in an email to their pastors that George Bryson would be starting his own movement and those pastors who decide to join with him will have to change the names of their churches.

While the release to the CCA member churches made it sound like an amicable parting, that’s not exactly how it went down.” (Michael Newnham, February 12, 2014 article here)

This personally makes me sad.

I was thinking today how much I missed my Calvary Chapel that I attended for five years and was ordained as a pastor/shepherd.  If I hadn’t run out of funds for my church plant when I traveled out-of-state to start a Calvary Chapel, perhaps I would still be immersed in that which I love… not a “church or organization” per say but a Bible preaching, worshiping, praying, loving fellowship, driven body of believers.  I miss having a church family.

I have and do attend church, but it has never been the same.  *sad face*  Going on 10 years now… I can’t believe how much time has passed.

Noah Film & Cosmos

I have some comments on the upcoming Noah film (March 28 release date).  The director had this to say at the world premier in Mexico City.

“It’s a very, very different movie,” director Darren Aronofsky told the crowd adding, “Anything you’re expecting, you’re f—ing wrong.”

Also, I have some comments on the new Fox Cosmos: A Spacetime Odyssey show.  It launched on Sunday night.  The host astrophysicist Neil deGrasse Tyson had this to say.

“Enlightened religious people don’t use the Bible as a textbook.”

Both endeavors bring a crude image to mind, a constipated person sitting on a toilet straining and suffering.  Then when the person lets out a big sigh of relief, he or she realizes what was brought forth is only worthy of being flushed into oblivion.

For the movie Noah, as I have said before here, it will end in box office failure because people who believe in the Bible will reject anything that attacks their faith (directly or indirectly).  I’ve heard that macro evolution is presented as being the way God created everything, but there is supposed to be some kind of difference between that and human creation in the film.  We’ll have to see how big the “difference” is when the film is released.  I’ll probably go see it just so I can write a review and save you all some money and a trip.

Again, to film makers and studios in the future, I’m happy to be hired as a consultant/advisor for future projects.  Heck, I’d be happy to oversee an entire series of films based on the Bible and other related programming.  We’d make money hand-over-fist.  :-)

As to astrophysicist Neil deGrasse Tyson’s comment concerning enlightened religious people and the Cosmos show I have a comment to make.  Enlightened scientists know the difference between real science (testable and observable) and speculative philosophy/fictional history.  Enlightened scientists don’t use philosophy as a science textbook.

*eye roll at Noah and Cosmos*

3/17/14 Update: Cosmos dropped 10% in its second week according to this article here, and it was already doing terrible in ratings.

3/22/14 Update:

“So Noah, with his sons, his wife, and his sons’ wives, went into the ark because of the waters of the flood” (Genesis 7:7).

I’ve heard that two of Noah’s sons don’t have wives in the film.  If they can’t even get that right, what is the point of making a movie from the Biblical story?  So disappointing.

TH30PH1LUS writes (from this article’s comments here)

“I know an individual in the film industry who is a believer who saw this film in a pre-screening. This person is open-minded regarding films taking license with stories, but said this movie “Noah” is a slap in the face to all who accept the Bible as God’s Word.

They go way over the line. Stone Giants help Noah build the ark in order to do penance with God? God & Noah determine that mankind should go extinct so the earth can revert to a more natural balance (ala the tv show “life after people”)? I understand there is no mention of the central point of Noah and his sons and their wives rebooting the human race, and the whole thing is turned into an Al Gore environmental rant.

This cannot be called a “Biblical movie” if it replaces God’s moral values with something else.”

What is Mardi Gras and Lent?

Someone asked how I would answer this question.

My response is, “Human traditions with no relevance toward Biblical Christianity.”  For a literal definition you can find plenty of resources to research online.

Of course, celebrate and enjoy whatever traditions you may follow, but remember it was Christ who gave up His life for us, and His salvation is complete.

“For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God,  not of works, lest anyone should boast” (Ephesians 2:8-9).

Here is an interesting article by Carter Sanger on the subject.

Science Academia: Atrocious Human Failure (Again)

And again… we have another example of scientific corruption on display.  Yet, scientists demand we accept the “scientific” drivel that they want to force down all our throats as if it is TRUTH (just as bad as politicians and lawyers).  How dare we question their integrity and principles.

I’d like to use a strong expletive in regard to the world of scientific academia… it starts with “bull” and ends with a word that rhymes with  “it.”

I love science, the scientific method, and all we can learn from observable scientific investigation and its application.

I hate unprovable, untestable scientific philosophy, corruption, fraud, and lies perpetrated by wicked, evil, greedy, arrogant, vain, God hating human beings.  Especially when they try to force it on everyone else, and attack other legitimate philosophies that people believe.

“For it is written:  ‘I will destroy the wisdom of the wise, And bring to nothing the understanding of the prudent.’  Where is the wise? Where is the scribe? Where is the disputer of this age? Has not God made foolish the wisdom of this world?” (1 Corinthians 1:19-20)

“For the wisdom of this world is foolishness with God. For it is written, ‘He catches the wise in their own craftiness’; and again, ‘The Lord knows the thoughts of the wise, that they are futile.'” (1 Corinthians 3:19-20).

Article here.  And some quotes I thought were interesting below.

Title: How computer-generated fake papers are flooding academia

“More and more academic papers that are essentially gobbledegook are being written by computer programs – and accepted at conferences”

“More than 100 more fake SCIgen papers were published by the US Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers (IEEE). Both organisations have now taken steps to remove the papers.”

“Hoaxes in academia are nothing new. In 1996, mathematician Alan Sokal riled postmodernists by publishing a nonsense paper in the leading US journal, Social Text. It was laden with meaningless phrases but, as Sokal said, it sounded good to them.”
