“Zealot” by Reza Aslan (Muslim)

“Reza Aslan, author of the new book, ‘Zealot: The Life and Times of Jesus of Nazareth’ has been interviewed on a host of media outlets in the last week. Riding a publicity wave, the book has surged to #2 on Amazon’s list.

Media reports have introduced Aslan as a ‘religion scholar’ but have failed to mention that he is a devout Muslim.

His book is not a historian’s report on Jesus. It is an educated Muslim’s opinion about Jesus — yet the book is being peddled as objective history on national TV and radio.”

Archeologists Dig up King David’s Palace

With every turn of the shovel in Israel, the Bible is proven to be true.  It is an accurate, historical record and account of eyewitnesses’ interactions with God.

From the article:

“This new data has far reaching implication for archaeology, history and biblical studies.”

“In this area one of the world’s most famous battles took place, the battle between David and Goliath.”

On Nutrition and Obesity

I have compassion for anyone else who struggles with their weight.  I’ve struggled with my weight my whole life.  Its a painful struggle that I can understand, as I’ve been in extraordinary shape or obese over the years.  Going back and forth multiple times.

Here are some observations that I have noticed from my lifetime of waging the battle.

1) Our culture is very prejudice toward fat people.  People treat you differently if you are thin or fat.  Fat people are even prejudice toward other fat people.  People who have been thin all of their lives do not understand.

2) Our body and hunger is regulated by a complex mix of chemicals.  Chemicals have a huge impact on us, far more than people understand.  I think my body doesn’t have the right balance of chemicals and I am left hungry all the time no matter how much I eat.  Plus, I have a slow metabolism.

“This Generation Will By No Means Pass Away”

An atheist was attacking Jesus because He hasn’t returned in 2000 years (2 Peter 3:3-4).

A believer wrote: “Don’t you know that a thousand years to us is only a day to God? It’s only been 2 days!”

An unbeliever responded: “Jesus quite clearly said he would be back in his disciples lifetimes . He wasn’t . They are long gone .”

My response:

Jesus says “Assuredly, I say to you, this generation will by no means pass away till all these things take place” (Matthew 24:34; Mark 13:30; Luke 21:32).

The followers of Jesus asked 3 questions in these passages.

1) When will these things be?

2) And what sign will there be when these things are about to take place?

3) And what will be the sign of Your coming, and of the end of the age?

Macroevolution & ERVs (Endogenous Retroviruses)

On occasion I will debate with athiests, agnostics, evolutionists, and others.  In one conversation, an atheist asked for proof that God exists.  I asked Him to prove that God does not exist.  Then I asked for proof of macroevolution, he responded with three letters (ERVs).

Here was my response.

So I can’t “prove” God exists to you. You can’t “prove” God doesn’t exist to me. So we’ll just have to see what happens.

Brown = White?

I don’t believe in “race.” I believe in Christ, who came to save people from every tongue, tribe, people and nation. (Revelation 5:9) True Christians love their neighbors no matter who they are or where they came from.

I don’t believe in “race.” I believe that humanity has descended from one man and one woman that were intelligently designed by God (Genesis 2:7; 4:1). Genetics proves this fact.

I do have a question, even if I don’t believe in “race,” for those who hate others in light of this ridiculous, false category. When did a latino man (Zimmerman) suddenly become “white?”

Save the Earth

To all my environmentally minded friends… Though we should always try, human effort will never save our planet. God will save our planet when Jesus returns. Notice the last part of Revelation 11:17-18

“We give You thanks, O Lord God Almighty,
The One who is and who was and who is to come,
Because You have taken Your great power and reigned.
The nations were angry, and Your wrath has come,
And the time of the dead, that they should be judged,
And that You should reward Your servants the prophets and the saints,
And those who fear Your name, small and great,
And should destroy those who destroy the earth.”

The destruction of the Earth by humanity is another sign that we are on the threshold of Christ’s return.

God’s Forgiveness, Mercy, and Grace

It helps to forgive others when they actually admit what they have done, show true remorse, and genuinely apologize.

God forgives those who confess (admit), repent (show true remorse and change of direction), and ask for His forgiveness (apologize). Then God will show mercy.

One attribute of God that is so far beyond human nature is His grace. He loved us even though we hated Him, Jesus died in our place while we were still His enemies, and He chose us to be His own even though we were criminals. God’s grace is unmerited, divine help given to us for our regeneration and sanctification. The Holy Spirit is the one who does this.

Why do we call on the name of the Lord and repent? We are led to and granted repentance (Romans 2:4; Acts 11:18; 2 Corinthians 7:8-10; 2 Timothy 2:25) by God Himself. Without God’s intervention and work in our heart, we would have never followed Him.

So, to be like God we should show mercy to those who ask for our forgiveness, and do our best to show grace as Jesus taught us. That is the hard part.

“You have heard that it was said, ‘You shall love your neighbor and hate your enemy.’ But I say to you, love your enemies, bless those who curse you, do good to those who hate you, and pray for those who spitefully use you and persecute you, that you may be sons of your Father in heaven; for He makes His sun rise on the evil and on the good, and sends rain on the just and on the unjust.” – Jesus (Matthew 5:43-48).

Why I Believe in a Pre-Tribulation Rapture

I believe in the pre-tribulation Rapture.

There will be a Rapture without question.  John 11:25-26 is the resurrection of the dead believer, and it is the resurrection of the living believer who will then never die.  1 Thess 4:16-18 is the perfect picture of this.

I believe the Rapture will happen before the Tribulation.  There are a few good illustrations of this.  When God saved Noah and his family before the flood.  When God rescues Lot and his family from Sodom and Gomorrah before He destroyed the cities.  And the Jewish wedding tradition (Jesus is the groom and we are the bride).  Zola Levitt has some great information on the wedding tradition.
